Brandon’s varsity volleyball team had a couple of solid showings last week as they gear up for districts in early March.
At the Waterford Mott Invitational Saturday, Feb. 18, the Blackhawks won their pool and finished sixth out of 20 teams. Brandon’s overall record is now 18-16-8.
The Blackhawks tied Rochester 25-16, 21-25; won against Waterford Mott 25-13, 25-17; tied Lutheran Northwest 23-25, 25-19; and lost in the Gold Division playoffs to Romeo 17-25, 16-25.

‘Overall, we had another solid tournament,? Brandon coach Brian Williams said. ‘We won our pool and advanced to the Gold Division, losing to a very good Romeo team. We finished the day sixth out of 20 teams. We had many girls step up today. The tournament helped us prepare for the rest of the year, where we face the top three teams in the league and a tough district next Saturday.?
On Senior Night Wednesday, Feb. 15, the Blackhawks won 25-14, 25-15, 25-16 against Clio in Flint Metro League action. The Blackhawks are now tied for third in league play at 6-5, and finished up their home season with an unblemished mark of 6-0.
Brittany Kelley was 10-for-10 passing and 16-for-16 serving with three aces and five digs, while Sandra Oliver was 18-of-19 passing, four kills, and 14 digs. Lynsey Crain added nine digs, Andrea Lewis added 12 digs and three aces, and Jessica Liebner was 6-of-6 hitting.
‘This was a great win for us,? Williams said. ‘We had lost to Clio earlier in the year so it was nice to get redemption. Clio came out a little flat and we were hitting on all cylinders.?
