BRANDON- The Brandon Varsity Basketball team added a big win to their resume on Jan. 21. They handed the Hamady Hawks their first loss of the season, defeating them on the road, 52-45.
In the Blackhawks big win Nick Emery was the points leader for Brandon taking 20 points on the evening. Gino Torelli added 12 points to help the effort. Tom Mahaffey tallied eight. Torelli led in rebounding with 14.
Looking back at the past weeks, Brandon totaled two wins and a lost. On Jan. 17 the boys took on Lapeer West for a 65-48 victory. Torelli led with 19 points, while Mahaffey added 13 to the board for the Blackhawks. Joe Turcsak and Tom Schaeffer also put up double digits, with 12 and 11 consecutively.
The Brandon loss last week came on Tuesday, Jan. 14, against Saginaw Heritage. In the 51-55 loss, Emery led the Blackhawks once more, with 16 points. Torelli added 14. Mitch Brady put up a pair of threes to added to the Brandon score.
Heading into this week the Blackhawks travel to take on Lakeland and Lapeer East. Both contests are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. On Jan. 24, the Brandon Boys took on the Fenton Tigers at home, however, no scores were available by press time.
