Monday, the Oakland Fire Academy visited Blanche Sims Elementary for some fun and fire safety. Over 35 of the academy’s cadets visited the young students and offered interactive instruction on how to keep it cool in case of emergency.
The cadets visited each class and, after presentations, Blanche Sims kids were able to identify what a fire alarm sounded like, the difference between safe and unsafe flames, how to stop, drop and roll and where to go in case there’s a fire in their home.
A cadet also dressed in full firefighting gear to show students that the big, noise and sometimes frightning equipment is there to help, not hurt.
A firetruck demonstration was on the schedule but had to be cancelled due to poor weather.
