Bourassa, Gillam score two touchdowns each in Goodrich win

The tag-team combination of Jake Bourassa and Bennett Gillam was a big factor in the Goodrich football team’s earning its second win of the year.
The two Martian running backs scored two touchdowns apiece as Goodrich defeated host LakeVille 25-12 in a Genesee Area Conference Red Division matchup With the win, the Martians improved to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Falcons fell to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Bourassa, who ran for 105 yards on 25 carries, opened the game’s scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run. Steve Harlow’s point-after conversion made the score 7-0 in favor of the Martians.
Later in the quarter, Bourassa’s five-yard touchdown run increased Goodrich’s lead to 13-0. Gillam, who ran for 62 yards and made 18 tackles on defense, then took the baton from Bourassa in the second quarter.
Gillam ran for two touchdowns in that quarter, one from two yards and the other from 12 yards, as the Martians took firm command of the game 25-0. The Falcons scored a touchdown later in the second quarter off a 15-yard fumble return by Nick Lusk, leaving the Martians ahead 25-6.
In the third quarter, the Falcons scored their other touchdown of the game on a five-yard run by Mike Baker.
Gillam had plenty of help on the Goodrich defense, as Chris Tanner chipped in with 13 tackles, Mike Schultz 12 and Paul Burt 10.
After a scheduled Oct. 13 game against Corunna, the Martians close out the 2006 season with a scheduled home game Oct. 20 against Yale.
The Bulldogs have experienced a subpar season so far, as the team has compiled a 1-6 record, including a 40-0 loss at the hands of Croswell-Lexington Oct. 6.
Last year, the Bulldogs went 5-4, including a 28-12 win against the Martians in the final game of the 2005 season.
