The Lake Orion girls? bowling team made school history last week when it battled arch rival Clarkston and emerged victorious, claiming its first Oakland County girls bowling title.
The final score was 379-373 in the two-game format, where whichever team has the most combined pins after two games takes the title.
The Lady Dragons began strong with a win in the first game against Clarkston, 187-172, but their rivals fought back to a significant lead in the second game after seven frames. Lake Orion’s girls responded with five consecutive strikes, however, to put the Wolves down for good.
The final three strikes came from senior Kate Gladstone, Lake Orion’s individual Division One state runner-up last year.
The girls began the tournament ranked fourth in the state, while Clarkston started in eleventh position. Lake Orion’s wins against Lakeland (371-362), South Lyon (311-306) and Milford (328-321) were all close.
At the county tournament, Gladstone finished second individually with 683 pins.
The team will compete again on Jan. 26 at Collier Lanes against Troy Athens.
