Bowlers keep striking wins

The Wildcat Bowlers defended their home lanes Monday night beating the Raiders of North Farmington.
The Boys Varsity won 28 to 2. Brady Wynkoop led the way with a high game of 256. He was followed by Christian Cartners 232 and Drew Pappas’s 228. Luke Delong added a 226 and older brother Jake Delong had a 202. Tanner Cartner also tossed a nice 200 game.
‘Hats off to Elden Palmer who shot a fine 246 game in the event,? said Head Coach J.R. Lafnear.
The Oxford Girls also defended the lanes winning 25 to 5. Mackenzie Janssen shot games of 210 and 256 to lead all bowlers. Hannah Farmer had games of 184 and 231 to help the Lady Wildcats.
The team has been ‘busy? the past few weeks according to Lafnear.
On Jan 15th the Boy’s Varsity defeated Bloomfield Hills 28 to 2 and the Girls won 29 to 1. In that match the Varsity Girls set a new school record with a 267-baker game. They followed that up with a 221 baker game for a 488 two game set.? The 488 score is tops in the state and the 267 game is second high.
Both teams went to The Oakland county tournaments and fell short of their goals. The boy’s qualified 2nd overall before being upset in the first round. Drew Pappas rolled back-to-back 269 games to medal as the fields? top bowler. The girls qualified 4th and advanced to the final 8 before losing.? Megan Kessler medaled for her team high 608 series and Mackenzie Janssen medaled for her 259 game as the tournaments high game.
On Jan. 21 the Varsity boys beat Ferndale 21 to 9. Leading the team was Jake Delong with games of 268 and 241.? Ferndale doesn’t field a girls team at this time.
Finally this past Saturday, January 24th, Varsity teams went to the Tri-County Baker tournament. Top teams for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties traveled to 5-Star Lanes in Troy.? The field was 26 boys? teams and 24 girls? teams. The format was bowl 12 baker games to qualify in the top 16. The Championship round is best two of three baker games.
The girls bowled well to finish in the top 10. They lost in round 1 to Utica Stevenson in three games.
?’The ladies are just off a bit. They aren’t getting all five bowlers rolling together,? Lafnear noted. ‘They are bowling well but this is a tough field and you must be at your best to win here.?
The boys were off a bit in qualifying end up seeded eighth after the 12 games.? After that the Oxford Wildcats got there A game going. The Wildcats defeated OAA rivals Troy in two games then faced the Number one seeded Macomb Dakota team.?
The Boys beat them in two games to advance into the semi-finals against Chippewa Valley. It took three games to beat Chippewa but they did it to advance into the finals. They would then face powerhouse Utica Stevenson. The Cats won game 1 203 to 170 and then lost game 2 227 to 200. The championship would go down to 1 game. The Wildcats saved there best until last shooting a 258 to Utica’s 178 to win the Championship.
‘This tournament has grown into a premier tournament in the area. There are outstanding programs here and for us to win this is awesome,? Lafnear added. ‘These boys performed a very high level today and showed great pose and mental toughness.??
