The Oxford High School bowling season came to an end this weekend at the Regional event in Troy.
‘None of Oxfords bowlers advanced to the state finals this year, nor did either team,? said Head Coach J.R. Lafnear. ‘This marks the first time since 2007 that Oxford won’t be represented at the state finals meet.?
Oxford did have plenty to be proud of though at regionals. Sr Co-Captain Caitlyn Wroblewski bowled extremely well just missing the cut by five pins. Caitlyn averaged nearly 185 for the six games for her highest regional finish ever. Also showing well for the lady bowlers were Freshmen Hannah Farmer who finished 18th overall and Sophomore Allysa Hurlburt who finished 32nd. Both young ladies will be anchors for years to come on the Oxford Team.
Co ‘Captain Brooke Harris also finished a respectful 34th
The boys were lead by Drew Pappas who finished 32nd’Sean McKinney who finished 46th’and Kyle Woody finished in the top 50.?
Lafnear said the competition?
?’The competition was really strong this year,? he said. ‘Most of these teams are very strong historically, you must be on you’re ‘A? game to get out of this region.?
‘We competed well in singles with most of our bowlers improving on past regional efforts, (but) our team event was just poor,? continued Lafneard. ‘No pin carry and poor spare shooting all day long.??
The future for Oxford Bowling is bright though, he said. Most of both teams will be back next year, as well as a ‘strong group of junior varsity bowlers.? At this year’s JV State finals Oxford’s Luke Delong finished in the top 5 and Jason Clark finished in the top 32. On the girls side Anne Johnson finished in the top 16.
