Oxford’s Boys and Girls track teams opened their season with a tri-meet held at Flint Kearsley. Oxford, Flint Kearsley, and Flint’s Southwestern Academy took to the track last Thursday battling for the first, second, or third place finishes. The tri-meet scored was scored accordingly: 5 points awarded to the team for a first place finish, 3 points for second, 2 points for third, and 1 point awarded for fourth place finishes. Second year head coach Andrew McDonald has a huge roster this season with 60 boys and 47 girls competing for Oxford.
Boys Results:
Oxford Boys took second in the tri-meet with a final score of 58. Flint Kearsley placed first with 96 points and Flint’s Southwestern Academy took third with 21. Coach McDonald anticipated a tough meet with Kearsley, who were state champs last year, but was pleased with the team’s effort. Senior Vince Belitsos swept the discus and shot put events. Junior Kam Mueller placed first in both the 110M hurdles and the 300M intermediate hurdles. Adam Richmond took first place in the 3200 meter run, and then again with teammates Todd Davidson, Kenny White, and German Guerrero in the 3200M relay. German Guerrrero secured first place in the 800M run as well. German Guerrero and Kenny White both finished first in the mile run, but due to a technicality, were unable to secure any points for the Wildcats. The Wildcats jump out to a 1-1 record with Flint Metro League meets beginning April 20.
