Ortonville — During their regular meeting on Jan. 13, the Brandon Friends of the Library donated $6,500 to the Brandon Township Public Library.
“The biggest gift of having such a hardworking, dedicated Friends group is knowing that there are amazing people in the community who believe in the power of libraries as much as we do,” said Library Director Laura Fromwiller. “They choose to volunteer their time to support our vision, and this support extends far beyond monetary.”
Last year, the FOL donated $7,500, which went towards the “Library of Things,” BookPage, summer reading prizes, movie license, picnic table and umbrella, youth playroom/storytime room rugs and toys, the tree library event, Battle of the Books, the youth department mural, Santa’s travel expenses, reading tents and décor for the youth department, and community room table cloths.
This year Fromwiller said the funds will go towards comfy chairs for the youth department, a Nintendo Switch console and games for teen programs, new lamps for the adult department, a mural for the playroom, summer reading prizes and goodie bags, Santa’s visit, BookPage magazine subscription, Battle of the Books, and movie license.
“Because they are so generous, we can do those extra things for our community without taxing out operational budget,” she said. “They provide icing on the cake.”
