Brandon Twp.- Kindergarten enrollment is higher than the projected numbers for the 2018-2019 school year.
“We are very pleased by the numbers that we are seeing,” said Dr. Matt Outlaw district superintendent. “Our kindergarten numbers have grown every year for the past four years and we have our largest kindergarten class this year since 2006-07.”
The kindergarten enrollment numbers were projected to be at 190, but the numbers for this upcoming year are currently around 220.
Enrollment has steadily been dropping for years, due to the incoming kindergartners not being enough to ‘replace’ the numbers of seniors graduating in any given year.
The decline has prompted the closure of two school district buildings over the past five years.
The amount of students this year has required the district to hire another kindergarten teacher to accommodate.
“Brandon’s preschool has grown by leaps-and-bounds over the past 4 years as well as part of the district’s early childhood initiative,” said Outlaw. “This is all great news as the Brandon School District is stabilizing much faster than expected.”
