Brandon’s girls soccer team is getting accustomed to tightaly fought games.
The Blackhawks played in four games within a four-day stretch April 30-May 3, all decided by one goal, including three 1-0 contests. Brandon split those four games, bolstering their record to 3-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Flint Metro Conference.
Brandon traveled to Notre Dame Prep in Pontiac for a May 3 tournament. The Blackhawks started out the day’s competition with a 1-0 loss to Swartz Creek. ‘We just couldn’t put the ball in the net,? Brandon coach Greg Back said. ‘We hit the post a couple of times and the crossbar a couple of times.?
Although Back said the Blackhawks ‘played extremely well? in their next game against host Notre Dame Prep, Brandon still fell to defeat 1-0.
The Blackhawks broke through in the win column with a 1-0 win against Oxford in their final game of the tournament, as junior Dawn Lucas scored the game’s only goal about 16 minutes into the second half. Emma Donnay, brought up from the junior varsity for the tournament, made four saves to record the shutout for the Blackhawks.
In their first game back from spring break, the Blackhawks defeated host Lapeer West 2-1 April 30. Senior Katie McCabe put the Blackhawks on the board first, scoring halfway through the first half.
Lapeer West tied the game off of a corner kick about a minute into the second half, but sophomore Janet Soave scored off an assist from senior Joia King with about 10 minutes to go in the game to clinch the game for the Blackhawks.
Senior goalie Cherish Hockey made 15 saves to earn the win for Brandon.
The Blackhawks return to action today when they host Linden at 6:45 p.m.
