Brandon’s varsity volleyball team opened its 2004-05 campaign with a 3-3 finish at the Okemos Invitational Dec. 11.
The Blackhawks won the bronze division of the invitational by defeating Pinckney 25-14, 25-14 in the division final. Earlier, the Blackhawks defeated Lansing Everett twice, winning the first matchup 25-8, 25-27, 17-15 and the second contest 25-8, 25-22.
Brandon also took on Okemos, Stevensville Lakeshore, and Ypsilanti in the invite.
‘Overall, we played well for our first tournament,? Brandon coach Brian Williams said.
Sandra Oliver had 14 aces and 10 digs and ‘set the tempo for our team,? Williams said. Savannah Stedman added 35 kills, 13 blocks, and 12 aces, while Jackie Back added 44 assists and 10 digs.
The Blackhawks competed at the Goodrich Invitational Saturday, Dec. 18. After that, they are on winter break until Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, when they travel to Fenton for a 7 p.m. contest.
