This year’s Flint Metro League girls swimming meet, which took place Nov. 3-4 at Oxford, ended up with another dominant victory for the Fenton Tigers.
However, the Brandon varsity team finished in second place and took another step toward eventually challenging the Tigers for league supremacy.
The Blackhawks, in their third year as a varsity program, finished second in the meet with 357 points, while Fenton captured first place in the meet as well as overall in the league, compiling 601 points.
Brandon’s second-place showing at the meet, combined with their 5-1 dual meet record, clinched second place in the league for the Blackhawks, ahead of third-place Holly. This year, the Flint Metro League expanded to seven teams for girls’ swimming, an increase from four teams last season.
The Blackhawks? best finish in the meet was third place, which they achieved in several different events.
Christina Hart notched two of those third-place finishes, clocking in at 1:01.39 in the 100 freestyle and 27.75 in the 50 freestyle. Allie Sowa also finished third for the Blackhawks, earning a time of 1:11.85 in the 100 butterfly. Teammate Stephanie Peck finished right behind Sowa in fourth place with a time of 1:13.07.
The Blackhawks? 200 freestyle relay team also finished third with a time of 1:54.77.
In addition to Peck’s finish in the 100 butterfly, Brandon earned two other fourth-place finishes. Megan Kennedy clocked in at 2:20.16 in the 200 freestyle, while Tara Bartle finished in 1:23.56 in the 100 breaststroke.
