This week businesses along Dixie Highway are seeing orange barrels from their windows, and some are worried about how the resurfacing project will impact their revenues.
‘It’s definitely a concern,? said Brian Perkins of Clarkston Auto Body and Towing. ‘We’re trying to be proactive about it.?
Clarkston Auto Body will offer a complete mobile estimate service while the Dixie Highway project is underway. They will pick up and deliver vehicles and even send photos to insurance companies to help customers avoid the road construction.
Depending on the driver’s insurance, ‘they may not have to come out to the shop at all,? said Perkins.
To make mobile estimates available, Clarkston Auto Body put an extra worker on staff for delivery and car pick up.
Despite being proactive, Perkins believes the Dixie resurfacing will have an impact on summer business all along the busy thoroughfare. ‘A lot of businesses will be affected for sure,? he said.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to resurface nine miles of Dixie Highway from now until mid-June. Get updates on the project on www.michigan.gov/drive.
