Buy a paper from Goodfellows

Gone are the days when paperboys would stand on street corners screaming, ‘Extra! Extra!?
One notable exception will occur this weekend when the Clarkston Rotary Club takes to the streets to sell their ‘Goodfellow Edition,? benefitting their annual ‘Shoes for Kids? project.
From 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, look for Rotary members peddling their papers along Main Street in downtown Clarkston, at Maybee Road and Dixie Highway, and at all three local Kroger stores.
In addition, Goodfellow Edition newspapers will be available at Bordine’s Nursery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Rotarian Joel DeLong, the Goodfellows Edition is a more-than-40-year tradition. The Clarkston Rotary Club has been involved with Shoes For Kids for 20 years, and the need continues to grow.
About five or six years ago, the charity project helped around 200 needy Clarkston area children. Two years ago, the number was 320 and last year there were 360.
DeLong said the campaign hopes to help 420 children this year, based on projections from Lighthouse of Clarkston and Clarkston Community Schools. The goal is to raise $17,000 from donations given by generous newspaper buyers this weekend.
Rotary Club members will wear Santa hats, orange vests and newspaper bags. At store locations, local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will help the Rotarians.
Sherman Publications Inc., parent company of The Clarkston News, will again print the special edition.
