C.J. Carnacchio, editor of The Oxford Leader, was honored last week with a Certificate of Appreciation from Oxford American Legion Walter Fraser Post 108.
The 33-year-old Oxford resident was given the certificate for his ‘continuous support? of local veterans through his news coverage of Post 108’s numerous activities, events and good works.
‘This is very unexpected, but very much appreciated,? Carnacchio said. ‘The awards I’ve received over the years from local veterans groups have always meant the most to me because without their selfless service to our country there would be no freedom of the press.?
Carnacchio praised Post 108’s longtime role in making Oxford a better place.
‘The Legion does it all, from helping fellow veterans and supporting local students with scholarships to lending a helping hand to citizens in need and giving history lessons to young people through its extensive military museum,? he said.
‘We’re lucky to have the men and women at Post 108 and I’m happy to continue promoting their good works whenever and wherever they need me. It’s the least I can do for them after all they’ve done for us.?
