Concours in the Park will fill Depot Park in downtown Clarkston with a diverse car show and local foods, 6-9 p.m., Friday, July 27. The 26th annual event is organized by Waterford Hills Road Racing Inc. and is one of Clarkston SCAMP’s yearly fund raisers.
All proceeds benefit the special needs summer camp.
‘Waterford Hills Road Racing has generously supported Concours for 26 years,? said Donna Clancy, executive director of the North Oakland SCAMP Funding Corporation.
‘It’s a fun family event that allows participants to showcase their unique cars. The close-knit community, escorted cruise and delicious food make this event stand out.?
Before the show, an escorted cruise will leave Depot Park at 5 p.m. Car owners can take part in the cruise, the car show, or both. Cruise participants should arrive by 4:45 p.m. Entrants not participating in the free cruise should arrive at the park between 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
Concours in the Park is free to the public, but there is a minimum donation fee for entrants who want to show their cars. The fee is $35 ? check clarkstonscamp.com.
The event features a mix of classic and new automobiles, including sports cars and race cars. Awards will be given for Best in Show, People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice and SCAMPers? Choice. A group of campers pick out SCAMPers? Choice.
‘The eclectic collection of cars is the highlight for me,? says George Farley, a Ferndale resident who has been attending Concours in the Park for 15 years. This year, he will be bringing his newly restored 1926 Model T. The cherry-red hot rod was completed this past February.
Ice cream from Cook’s Farm Dairy and macaroni and cheese from Clarkston Union will be for sale at the volunteer-run food tent. A silent auction will also take place throughout the night. Call 248-623-8089.
