Downtown Oxford is the place to be Saturday, Aug. 6 as one of the area’s premiere summer festivals, Celebrate Oxford, returns for an entire day of super family fun.
Sponsored by Genisys Credit Union, The Oxford Leader and the Oakland Press, Celebrate Oxford features kids games and activities, live entertainment, tasty food, classic cars, helicopter rides, a beer tent and plenty of local businesses promoting and selling their products and services.
It all begins with a pancake breakfast, put on by the Oxford Lions Club, at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, located at the corner of Hovey and Dennison streets (one block west of M-24). The breakfast will run from 8-10 a.m.
Sample all the delicious foods offered by local restaurants at the Taste of Oxford from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wash it down with a frosty brew at the beer tent from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., sponsored by the Oxford/Orion Eagles Club.
From 12 noon until 10:30 p.m., Centennial Park will be feature non-stop live entertainment including cheerleaders and a variety of musical acts.
Don’t forget to check out all the vintage vehicles at the classic car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., sponsored by the Rotary Club of Oxford and the North Oaks Corvette Club.
Let the Oxford Chamber of Commerce introduce you to a variety of local merchants and entrepreneurs at its Business Expo tent from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The Oxford Women’s Club is sponsoring an Art & Exhibit Fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Celebrate Oxford by taking a helicopter ride for $35 per person. The helicopter will be taking off from Oxford Fire Station #1 located at the corner of N. Washington and Church streets.
Don’t miss the portable veterans memorial wall in Centennial Park.
Information booths will be located in the park and at E. Burdick St. and M-24.
A First-Aid station will be located in Centennial Park while a Comfort Station will be set-up at Immanuel church. The Comfort station will offer restrooms, a changing station, free water and hot dogs for sale.
For those worried about parking, the North Oakland Transportation Authority will provide a free shuttle to the downtown from Oxford Meijer and the Oxford Marketplace.
