In the current economy, it is not uncommon for new businesses to pop up with high hopes, but die a slow death.
This is not the case for Orion’s Checkers? franchise, which has done so well a second location will join the township, tentatively, in February.
‘Well, we acquired the property and we thought it would be an awesome place for another Checkers,? said General Manager Valerie Keyes. ‘We opened the original location on June 9, 2011 and during those 18 months we earned rookie of the year for Checkers nationwide, we had the highest customer satisfaction in Michigan, we have become an impact store (where Checkers sends people to be trained) and we earned a gold star – one of only 80 in the country. We have accomplished a lot in the first year and half.?
The new Checkers, which will go at 717 Brown Road on the border of Orion and Auburn Hills, is planned to be a busier location due to the nearby shopping centers and work commutes.
The construction is largely determined by weather, but once the building is erected, a health inspection is required and then food can be moved in. In the days leading up to the grand opening, special dry runs will happen, though these will likely be invite only.
Still, Keyes said she was happy to open another location in Orion, which she has grown to like.
‘The thing I like best about this area is that it’s really a close knit family,? she said. ‘It’s a community that supports itself and they support their schools and they support their businesses. We enjoy that support and we feel like we get a lot of it.?
