Cheers to the DDA’s volunteers

Last Monday the DDA board recognized multiple individuals and businesses that have volunteered for their community, or who have participated in special downtown projects.
Awards were distributed, hors d’oeuvres were shared, and 51 North’s cash bar provided home-brewed beer and home-made mead and wine. Pictured right, the DDA board slices cakes by Sweet and Savory bake shop in Oxford. Suzanne Perrault, executive director of the DDA, commented on her favorite projects. ‘The redevelopment project at the brewery’because this used to be the DDA office. And we worked really hard to get into a lease agreement and I know how much Don has invested into making this business’happen. I think the business of the year, CJ’s, they of ten don’t get the recognition thatthey deserve for the Thanksgiving dinners that they do, and I just asked Carl tonight and he said they’ve been doing it for over 35 years. It’s known, basically they open up the restaurant and serve Thanksgiving dinner and you can come in and eat a meal for free. Obviously our volunteer of the year, Monica Squarcia, she has over 100 volunteer hours, she’s a great board member. And then I also loved the Meeks Park Project because that was with all the students from Stadium Drive. They raised money for an improvement downtown and that’s pretty special. No matter if you come to a meeting once a month, or your there one Saturday morning for a few hours, we want to say thank you, and that’s what it’s all about.?
