The Masons of Michigan is sponsoring a Michigan Child Identification Program event at Olde World Canterbury Village on Sept. 24 in conjunction with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Walk-a-thon. It begins at 8:30 and ends at 11 a.m.
MICHIP provides at no cost to children of Michigan families the following:
? Toothprints Dental Imprint Wafers
? A video of the child answering questions of importance
? A still photo with height and other information
? Fingerprints — no ink
? and DNA swab kits
All of this information will be turned over to the parent or legal guardian who is attending the event with their children.
The parent will receive a printout of gathered information that is duplicated on a compact disk. The DNA swab and bite plates are given to the parents for them to complete at home.
Absolutely no information is retained by the Masons except for the permission forms allowing us to complete these packages.
Each child progresses through several stations of the event that takes about 10-15 minutes.
Each step generates an identifying item that when completed, parents are able to store in a safe place and even take on trips and vacations.
This completed kit can be immediately provided to authorities to aid in the recovery of a missing child. Any age is welcome, but the closer the child is to infancy, the more difficult it could be.
