Area residents and law enforcement are seeking information after a Christmas star was vandalized during the late night hours of Dec. 29.
Someone climbed up the attached ladder and attempted to pull the star off the silo. While unsuccessful the star was left hanging down from the silo.
Township resident and property owner Mark Trowbridge said he installed a three-foot diameter illuminated star near the top of his 40 foot concrete silo near Ridge and Horton roads before Christmas.
‘That’s my statement regarding Christmas,? said Trowbridge. ‘To me it represents the birth of Christ.?
Trowbridge said he places the star atop the silo near an old barn built in about 1870.
‘It’s a long climb up there’I’m just glad no one fell off the silo. If someone is going to do a prank this one could be very dangerous. There appears to be only one person that climbed up there’fortunately they did no other form of vandalism. We have lived in the Goodrich area for more than 21 years and have never had a problem before. It’s nice to have the star lighted up. I get e-mails and Christmas cards from area residents about the star’they have responded very positively about it.?
Sgt. David Dwyer of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department said the vandalism of the Christmas decorations at the Atlas Township farm was not widespread.
‘That was the only report of damage to a Christmas decoration we received this holiday season,? he said. ‘Typically vandalism is toward automobiles and are personal vendettas’often when someone is feeling offended. We see this when people are going through a divorce or some sort of personal issue.The recent damage to Bronner’s in Frankenmuth and all the Christmas items was an exception.?
According to news reports, five men were charged from the damage they allegedly did at Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland on Christmas morning. Wayne Bronner says around 45 figurines were damaged, totaling around $40,000.
