Church offers free food

For those who truly need it, free food is always a Godsend, especially in these tough economic times.
Knowing this, the New Beginnings Baptist Church, located at 985 N. Lapeer Rd. on the Oxford/Orion border, held a grocery giveway on Saturday.
‘We just wanted to help people out,? said Pastor Tim Chappell.
Folks were able to stop by the church and grab enough free food to feed themselves and their families.
‘They can take as much as they want,? Chappell said.
The selection included nine tables full of assorted nonperishable food items, one table piled high with bread and another table overflowing with fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.
Chappell said the church received the donated food on Wednesday, which was ‘perfect timing? in light of all the people who probably lost food when the power went out due to Thursday’s big storm.
Chappell noted the grocery giveaway isn’t just a one-time thing.
‘We’re hoping to do this about every three months,? he said. ? CJC
