City board of review coming Monday

If you live in the City of the Village of Clarkston and want to fight your taxes, the first annual Board of Review for 2014, is March 10.
According to city charter, the Board of Review “shall convene its first session beginning on the second Monday in March of each year at such time and day and place be designated by the Council . . . the board of review shall convene its second session on the third Monday of each year . . .”
This year that means March 10 and March 17.
City Charter, Section 8.9 also states, “Notice of the times and place of the sessions . . . shall be published by the Clerk in a newspaper having general circulation in the city at least ten (10) days prior to each session of the board.”
If you missed the notice in the pages of The Clarkston News, you’re not alone.
The city, which has historically published its public notices in this newspaper, located within the city borders and paying city taxes since Clarkston became a city in the early 1990s, published the notice in the Wednesday, Feb. 26, edition of The Oakland Press.
It was located in the classified section, by the Personals and Merchandise want ads.
According to the notice, the Board of Review will meet at 375 Depot Street (City Hall) from 1 to 4 p.m. this coming Monday; from 6-9 p.m. on Monday at 3 East Church Street; on Monday, March 17, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at City Hall.
“For appointments: Call Oakland County Equalization Division Toll Free 1-888-350-0900. Extension 81862. Those without an appointment will be served on a first come, first serve basis,” the notice stated.
