Civil War concert

Springfield Township Library hosts The Dodworth Saxhorn Band, a 19th century brass band, performing ‘Bringing America’s Musical Past to Life,? 3:30-5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9.
The band will also perform at Davisburg Cemetery from 2:30-3 p.m. The free public concert at the library is a Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration Performance sponsored by the Springfield Township Friends of the Library.
The band performs historical, music, educational, audience-involving concert of American music from the 1800s. The theme of the concert is Songs That Made A Nation, The American Civil War; 1861-1865. Band members dress in period costumes, and plays music of the 19th century using authentic period instruments. They performed at the White House for President Bill and Hillary Clinton and across the country during its 26-year history. The concert is funded in part by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Michigan Humanities Council.
