Clarkston bus drivers carry off awards at bus ‘Roadeo?

Clarkston bus drivers won first place overall at the Oakland County School Bus Roadeo, May 17, at Oakland Schools in Pontiac.
Tammy Layton won first place for Clarkston, third for the Oakland District.
Waterford earned second place overall. Carrie Myre earned first for Waterford, second for District.
Holly earned third overall. Bark Bunker won first for Holly and first for District.
Lake Orion’s Yvonne Brown won first for Lake Orion, and April Thompson earned third place in ‘Stop for a $20, earning her $5.
Marcy Simmons earned first place for Rochester, and Gordon Montross won first place in ‘Stop on a $20, earning him the $20.
Greg Anderson won first place for Southfield.
Lynn Erickson won first for West Bloomfield.
For Walled Lake, James Rivamonte earned first, Heather Hanson earned second in ‘Stop for a $20,? good for $10, and Allison Smith won a barbecue grill.
Thirty-one bus drivers from Clarkston, Holly, Lake Orion, Rochester, Southfield, West Bloomfield, Walled Lake, and Waterford competed in the School Bus Driving Championship, at Oakland Schools in Pontiac, created to test driving skills and recognize local professional drivers. It was hosted by Clarkston drivers.
Judges include police officers from Novi, Wixom, Ferndale, Norval Township, Royal Oak, South Lyon, Waterford, West Bloomfield, Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police Post 21 North, Traffic Improvement Association, Oakland County Transportation Supervisors Association, and local bus drivers.
Competitors received door prizes donated by local businesses.
