Clarkston powerlifters rise to 1st place finish

With 20 schools and 300 athletes competing, the Clarkston varsity power lifting team placed seven lifters in the top three places of their respective weight classes to earn 44 points and first place at the Jan. 10 Flushing Invitational.
According to coach Chad Looper, this victory is a big stepping stone for the CHS powerlifting program.
‘Our athletes now understand how it feels and what it takes to win a meet of this caliber,? Looper said. ‘I am proud of the kids ? they are working hard and it is paying off. The fact that we have three sophomores [Nick Sorise, Steve McIsaac and Tim Horstman] contributing on varsity is good for the future of our program.?
Team scoring was led by seniors Bill Haun, first place at 155; Jono Moehlig, second, and Matt MacKinnon, third, at 181; and Brett Kenerson, second at 242.
Also contributing were junior J.J. Lange, second at superheavyweight, and sophomores Sorise, third at 155 and McIsaac, third at 220.
For the girls team, Laura O’Neill placed second at 123 pounds and Maggie Cornell was third at 190 pounds.
The JV team also had a strong showing with Mike Isaac placing third at 114; Ryan Kenerson, third at 145; Reed Body, third, and Nick Meola, second, at 181.
