All those who attended Oxford High School back when it was located at 109 Pontiac St. are invited to a swinging alumni dance there on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The dance is being organized by the Class of 1963 in conjunction with its 50th reunion on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Oxford Hills Golf & Country Club.
All those who attended the high school on Pontiac St. ? now known as Oxford Elementary School ? from 1959 through 1982 are invited to enjoy a night of reminiscing, touring their old stomping grounds and kicking up their heels.
Festivities will run from 7-10 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and includes pizza and soft drinks.
‘It was so successful last year,? said Carla Lambertson, one of the 1963 alumni organizing this year’s dance.
She estimated that about 100 people attended last year’s shindig.
‘It was just lots of fun to get back together,? Lambertson said.
Disc Jockey Bill Pearson, a 1963 alum, will spin all those memorable tunes from the 1950s and 1960s for the alumni event. Back in junior high and high school, Pearson served as DJ at all the sock hops and other dances.
Pearson enjoyed a successful career in Michigan radio that began in 1966 and ended in 2010. He worked at numerous AM and FM stations in Flint and Saginaw, where his positions ranged from on-air personality to program director.
While chatting with a group of 1963 alumni, it was easy to see that after five decades, they’re still just as funny and spunky as when they were teenagers.
When asked it there was anything notable about their class, Larry Spickler said, ‘Most of us survived.?
‘Nobody’s on the Ten Most Wanted List,? added fellow graduate Darryl Lambertson. ‘With the way we started out, it’s a wonder.?
Spickler noted the alumni dance really is a great opportunity for graduates from different classes to get reacquainted with each other, something that normally doesn’t happen at traditional reunions.
‘We compare ourselves to them and they look as bad we do,? joked Darryl Lambertson.
