Clerk wants to know if parks/ rec can seek alternative funds

Orion Township Parks and Recreation Director Rock Blanchard would like the township board’s permission to use alternative funding programs but clerk Jill Bastian would like to find out from the Michigan Townships? Association if it’s legal for them to do that first.
Blanchard was before the board on April 5, with a request from the advisory committee asking the board’s approval to begin fundraising events and programs to generate funds for capital improvements for the parks. Events could include raffles, golf outings, auctions and more.
Bastian wants to get an opinion from the MTA first, then possibly the township’s attorney before the board discusses the issue. The board voted to postpone discussion until they had talked to the MTA.
