Cops corner web predator in Independence Township

An Internet predator who thought he was communicating with a 35-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter was arrested in Independence Township late last week.
According to a statement issued Monday by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Scott Daily, 39, sent three pictures’including one explicit image’of himself to what he believed were two females, and indicated an interest in engaging in simultaneous sexual activity the with mother and daughter.
Turns out he was actually talking to a cop prowling for predtors online.
Daily initially ‘met? the pair in an online chat room the previous day, and quickly arraigned a meeting near Dixie Highway and M-15, where he was unexpectedly greeted by officers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Computer Crimes Unit.
Daily, an unemployed office worker from the City of Rochester Hills was arrested on multiple felony charges, including child sexually abusive activity, a 20-year felony; computer Internet communicating with another to commit a crime, a 10-15 year felony; and using a computer to commit a crime, a 10-20 year felony.
Daily had several condoms in his possession when he arrived at the designated Independence Township parking lot at the set time. He was arrested without incident, and cooperated with sheriff’s detectives.
According to OCSO Undersheriff Michael McCabe, the Independence Township meeting location had no significance other than serving as an agreed-upon spot between the parties.
Police, seized two computers from Daily’s residence, said the man indicated he lives with his parents and communicated from a computer in his bedroom. Daily also told officers he has a degree in criminal justice and was interested in becoming a police officer.
‘This case just shows how anyone can be a sexual predator, no matter what their chosen profession is and how quickly these predators can act,? said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard in the statement issued Monday. ‘This man claims has a (college degree) and wanted to become a police officer. It is unfortunately a disgusting and sad commentary.?
Daily was arraigned before Magistrate Dudley March 8 with bond set at $50,000. While no court date had been set at press time, police said Daily’s exam would take place in the 52-2 District Court in Independence Township within 10 days.
