Council vote on election change set for Monday

Ortonville- The village council will vote on whether to change the election schedule during their meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., Oct. 27, at the township offices, 395 Mill St.
The change has been proposed in order to have village elections coincide with the township, school board, state, and federal elections.
Proponents of the change say it would save the village up to $2,600 per election and be more convenient for voters.
Detractors are concerned because the move would mean a 14-month extension on the terms of three councilmembers? Harold Batten, Kay Green and Melanie Nivelt, as well as Council President Ken Quisenberry.
Currently, their terms are set to expire next September. Changing the election schedule would extend their terms to November 2010.
