Council wants to sell old township hall

It appears Oxford Village is going to be seeking potential buyers for the old township hall located at 18 W. Burdick St.
‘I think we should sell it,? said Councilman Tom Kennis.
Last week, council members voted 4-1 to have a request for proposals concerning the property drafted and brought back to them for review and approval.
The old township hall is part of the village municipal complex.
In January 2011, the village took ownership of the 2,000-square-foot space, plus basement, and 30 parking spaces as part of a legal settlement with the township.
The township hasn’t occupied the building since 2006 when it moved to its current office facility at 300 Dunlap Rd.
Village voters gave permission to sell the entire municipal complex and the land it occupies in the November 2012 general election.
‘We’ve gotten some interest over the years, but nothing’s come of it,? said village Manager Joe Young.
Council members made it clear while they’re interested in selling the old township hall, they’re not prepared to sell any parking spaces to go with it.
However, officials would be willing to consider granting access to the municipal site’s public parking to whoever purchased the old township hall.
In the information he provided to council, Young stated the building is in need of an estimated $90,000 worth of repairs and improvements. His calculations included $30,000 for handicap accessible doors and restrooms, along with exit and security lights; $10,000 for ‘possible mold clean-up,? painting and carpeting; $25,000 for roof replacement; and $25,000 to replace/relocate the HVAC system.
The village can’t afford to accomplish any of this, so the building would be marketed in ‘as is? condition.
‘I don’t think that we have the funds to go in and redo it right now and then be liable for the changes,? Kennis said.
