Monday, March 30, Orion Township deputies responded to a building check at a residence on Pine Lake Road. The caller, a UPS driver, stated that he went to the address in question to make a delivery and found the door wide open.
After deputies entered the residence they found what appeared to be a white powdery substance and three-inch mortar shells in the basement of the home.
The homeowner arrived while the officers were on scene and told them he made fireworks for his own use.
Due to the chemicals and a possible hazardous materials situation, the deputies backed out of the area and contacted the Orion Twp. Fire / Hazmat unit and ATF and MSP Bomb Squad be contacted for assistance.

Saturday, March 27, while on neighborhood patrol, a deputy was flagged down regarding a possible home invasion at a residence near the intersection of Armstrong and Waldon Roads.
While on the scene, the officer saw a suspect fleeing the area on foot. After a short chase, the suspect was located by the deputy’s K-9 and taken into custody.
The suspect was examined by fire/EMS and taken to POH for medical clearance after the K-9 apprehension. The subject was then lodged at the jail for the illegal entry and resisting.
A manager of the Bellacino’s Restaurant on Lapeer Road spent last Friday night in jail but will not face felonious assault charges after an incident in the restaurant’s parking lot on Friday afternoon.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, two individuals went to the restaurant to return a pizza delivery bag and asked the manager for food as a reward.
An argument ensued between the manager, 18, and the two individuals in the parking lot, where the manager pulled out a BB gun and ordered the individuals off of the property.
The report said the manager lost his temper and that is why he pulled the gun.
‘He was held overnight, but the prosecutor’s office decided not the press any charges,? said Sgt. Michael Suarez of the Orion substation.
A 21-year-old Auburn Hills man was being treated for a suicide attempt on August 10, when he confessed to a rape that occurred in Orion Township about two years ago.
The Auburn Hills Police Department immediately contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Orion Substation, which investigated the claim.
According to the OCSD report, the man identified his victim, but this supposed victim said she had not seen the man before, and was never raped.
The supposed victim’s mother said the man in question was doing repairs on their home, but her daughter was never home while they were present.
Deputies concluded that no such incident had ever taken place.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a 46-year-old Pontiac man who was involved in a domestic assault incident at his girlfriend’s Bluebird Lane residence on Aug. 6.
According to an OCSD report, the suspect confronted his 35-year-old girlfriend, after loaning his van to her 16-year-old daughter.
The suspect reportedly dragged his girlfriend around the trailer and punched her repeatedly in the side.
The brother of the victim arrived on the scene to witness the end of the confrontation. He struck the suspect on the head with his cane, and the suspect fled on foot.
The victim’s 10-year-old nephew witnessed the entire incident and supplied the OCSD with a report.
The victim was transported via ambulance to the North Oakland Medical Center, where she was treated for a possible broken rib.
Three arrests were made in a July 30 disputeithat appears to have involved two drunk drivers, though it took Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies some time to sort it all out.
According to multiple OCSD reports, a 51-year-old Orion man, driving with his wife, was cut off near the Indian Lake Apartments, forcing him into a guard rail.
The victim followed the other driver to his apparent Fisherman’s Cove residence, where deputies got involved.
A 39-year-old man, near the scene when police arrived, was uncooperative with information and ignored the deputies.
Appearing drunk, though not involved in the accident, the man resisted commands, thus forcing deputies to deploy a stun gun.
Shortly thereafter, a 25-year-old Orion man, who the victims identified as the driver of the other vehicle, emerged from the apartment. He also appeared intoxicated.
He too resisted arrest and obstructed police by refusing to identify himself, though he was later identified after being transported to the Oakland County Jail.
Meanwhile, the 51-year-old refused a preliminary breath exam, and was taken to the OCJ, where a blood draw led to a citation of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A 29-year-old man was robbed at gun point after getting out of his car in the parking lot of the Indian Lake Village Apartments on the evening of July 20.
The apartments are located near Lapeer and Greenshield roads.
The incident took place in the 3000 block of Herring Court shortly before midnight.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, the male suspect remained at large at press time.
The suspect, who was estimated at about five feet, eight inches, wore a black ski mask and pointed a silver handgun at the victim.
He made off with the victim’s wallet, including up to $50, a driver’s license and bank and credit cards.
The suspect fled on foot in the direction of Lapeer Road, and was not found during search efforts by a K-9 unit and an OCSD helicopter.
A man attempting to steal $142 worth of meat from the Kroger store on Baldwin Road on July 15 had his plan foiled by an alert store manager, who realized the thief’s winter coat didn’t make much sense on a 95-degree day.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the would-be meat thief, a 36-year-old Clarkston man, ordered a variety of steak and then attempted to conceal all 11 packages in his insulated Detroit Lions winter jacket.
The store manager, who happened to be working at the meat counter, kept a close eye on the man as he walked past all points of purchase without paying for the meat.
He was stopped outside the store and asked to return as OCSD deputies arrived on the scene.
A deputy searched the jacked and found drug paraphernalia. The man was issued tickets for both offenses.
An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputy deployed his taser against a man who refused to follow verbal commands at the Orion Lakes Mobile Home Park off of Brown Road on July 5.
The man and two other subjects were drinking inside a vehicle. According to an OCSD report, the three men were issued citations for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, after being discovered early in the morning.
One of the men then became very aggressive with the responding deputy. The deputy applied his taser to the combative man to maintain control of the situation.
The man was arrested for resisting and obstructing arrest, and lodged at the Oakland County Jail.
A 65-year-old Orion man put a scare into parents and young ball players on June 26, when he drove his purple Ford Taurus onto the fields at Civic Center Park on Joslyn Road.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the man was seen driving behind field #1 ( Johnson Field) on a utility road, when he struck a garbage can.
One of the coaches immediately stopped the game and had the children leave that area of the field.
The man, who witnesses said appeared to be intoxicated, then struck a bridge and drove onto an adjoining field (Hubbard Field), before being stopped by parents.
The man left the scene, with the help of two female friends, without reporting the accident. However, his vehicle was impounded.
Deputies later issued the man tickets for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Two 19-year-olds were apprehended by Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies, after running from the CVS on Baldwin Road with two bottles of Canadian Club liquor on June 22.
According to an OCSD report, the two suspects, from Pontiac and Waterford, were observed by a CVS cashier, who then contacted the assistant manager.
The two employees confronted the suspects and saw the two bottles. The suspects fled the scene and ran into a nearby wooded area.
Responding deputies searched the woods, and a deputy ordered the suspects to stop.
The suspects ignored the orders and continued to run, but were later observed by another deputy lying in the grass. They were handcuffed and taken back to the CVS.
Descriptions of the suspects from the employees matched the apprehended suspects, who were issued citations for retail fraud and under 21 consumption of alcohol, after preliminary breath tests were administered.
The two bottles of Canadian Club were not recovered.
A motorist in Rochester Hills helped the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department apprehend a 20-year-old Orion Township man and his 19-year-old girlfriend, also from Orion, after the couple were seen stealing 7-11 receipts.
According to an OCSD report, the motorist saw the suspect steal a bag of receipts from an Auburn Hills 7-11 store worker, at the National City Bank in Rochester Hills on June 12.
The motorist saw the man get into a white SUV, and was able to obtain a license plate number before the vehicle fled.
About an hour and a half later, Orion Township OCSD Substation deputies observed the same vehicle, and stopped it at Speedway Gas on M-24.
The two suspects, along with another man, all of whom previously worked at the same 7-11 in Auburn Hills, were taken into custody.
Deputies recovered most of the stolen money from a roommate of one of the suspects.
An argument between two men at the Catalina Lounge on Baldwin Road on June 14 resulted in OCSD deputies finding two handguns inside one of the vehicles.
According to an OCSD report, the two guns were found unloaded.
Deputies were responding to the scene due to a felonious assault complaint, that involved the threat of firearms.
The two subjects involved left the establishment upon the arrival of the police, with no visible weapons.
After the firearms were discovered, deputies arrested one of the men, and he was lodged at the Oakland County Jail. The incident continues to be investigated.
A party at a Waldon Road home was broken up by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department on June 4, resulting in several underage drinking citations.
According to an OCSD report, deputies responded to the home after complaints of underage drinking and a large bonfire.
Some of the subjects ran from the scene upon the deputies? arrival. Those that were detained on the scene were issued tickets and released when sober drivers arrived.
The homeowner was issued a host ordinance violation citation. The bonfire, located near the back of the property, was put out as well.
Deputies also observed a car pulling out of the listed address. Both passengers in that vehicle agreed to take preliminary breath tests.
The driver was arrested for a zero tolerance violation, while the passenger was arrested for under 21 consumption of alcohol, after failing the breathalyzer.
An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputy and a 19-year-old female decoy busted five locations during an alcohol compliance detail on May 26.
According to an OCSD report, the compliance details were conducted in Orion, Lake Orion and Oxford, at around 20 locations between 5-11 p.m.
The Sunoco Gas Station on Broadway, Oakwood Market on Oakwood Road, Indianwood Junction Market on Baldwin Road, Catalina Lounge on Baldwin, and Star Market on Joslyn Road were all cited for selling alcohol to a minor.
In addition to the citations being issued, the marked money used for purchase was returned to the deputy and the products sold were confiscated for evidence.
A man breaking into the CVS drug store on Baldwin Road got a scare of his own when he started experiencing chest pains during the attempted heist, just after midnight on May 22.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, Terry Hal Lemonde of Grayling, 51, advised deputies that he was having the pains after they arrived on the scene.
He immediately confessed to entering the building, and was found walking away from the scene with alcohol and tobacco.
The deputies were responding to an open door alarm going off at the store.
The Orion Township Fire Department arrived at the scene, and helped to transport Lemonde to the North Oakland Medical Center for observation.
He was cleared by medical staff, and transported to the Oakland County Jail, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond, charged with breaking and entering.
A man known to be on blood pressure medication was found deceased behind the Kmart store on Lapeer Road on May 13.
The man also had a history of alcoholism and being semi-homeless. According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the man was found by his niece near his bicycle in a field behind the store.
There was no apparent sign of foul play, but an official cause of death is pending further investigation.
The man was last seen by his sister two days prior, when she attempted to give him his blood pressure medication. He refused to take the medication.
The man lived part-time with his sister in Oxford, and was spotted regularly behind the Kmart.
A Pygmy goat was brutally attacked by a husky, and ultimately had to be put down on May 7 at a Baldwin Road residence.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, two deputies responded to the home after a house-sitter, and the mother of the goat’s owner, reported an attack.
The deputies arrived to find the dog running away.
One deputy attempted to use pepper spray, but was unable to subdue the dog.
The dog also managed to escape two attempts with the taser, pulling the prong out of the taser on the first occasion.
Eventually one of the deputies coaxed the dog into calming down, and it was transported to Oakland County Animal Control.
Bite marks were visible on the throat of the goat, and it was in obvious distress.
At the request of the house-sitter, the deputies discharged a weapon to kill the injured animal, and assisted in carrying the goat to a burial spot near it’s pen.
Three men, including a 25-year-old Orion Township man, were arrested by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department for carrying large amounts of heroin and crack cocaine at the Bald Mountain State Recreation Area on April 25.
According to an OCSD report, deputies responded to Bald Mountain to assist a DNR officer with suspicious subjects in the park.
When the deputies found the men, they had in their possession drugs and drug paraphernalia, more of which was found in their two vehicles.
The Orion man was arrested, along with a 29-year-old from Rochester and a 31-year-old from Oakland Township.
All three were transported to the Oakland County Jail and lodged without incident.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies responding to a gun complaint on April 21 uncovered large quantities of drugs in the vehicle of a 17-year-old driver.
According to an OCSD report, the 17-year-old pointed a gun at another vehicle on Rohr Road, near Gregory.
The suspect’s vehicle, described as a green Pontiac, was stopped by deputies and the driver was detained.
A black pellet pistol, resembling a Desert Eagle firearm, was located inside the vehicle, and a warrant was obtained for a vehicle search.
A canine search was carried out and large quantities of marijuana and mushrooms were found, as well as a scale.
A search was also carried out at the suspect’s Windmill Court home, where more drugs were found.
The suspect was arrested for possession with intent to distribute, and assault and battery.
A group of five teenagers from Warren were caught with drug paraphernalia in the parking area of the Paint Creek Trail in Orion Township over the weekend.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the teens were caught after hours on April 16.
Two boys, both 18, and one girl, 15, were seen passing drug paraphernalia in a vehicle.
After having the teens exit the vehicle, officers found marijuana on their persons as well.
Another boy, 18, and girl, 17, were said to be on the trail. When they later returned, they were also detained by the officers.
All five teens were taken into custody and later released to their parents.
In addition to being charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the boys were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of ID theft on Stanton Road on Sept. 2.
According to an OCSD report, a 55-year-old woman said she had recently discovered that her credit card had been used by someone else on eBay Pay Pal and Orbitz.
The woman said the card had been used multiple times since Aug. 26, totaling charges of $1,923.
One of the ordered items was sent to her address.
The woman notified her bank, who cancelled her card and requested a police report so they could start an investigation through their fraud department.
