Planners hope a Neighborhood Security Seminar tomorrow spurs residents into action against crime.
“The goal is to increase neighborhood watch programs,” said Henry Woloson, helping to organize the event, 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, at Independence Township Hall, 6483 Waldon Center Drive. “We’re encouraging at least one person from each neighborhood association to attend, then spread the message.”
Rick Gutowski of Citizens Cable Committee hosts the free event, with guest speakers from Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, security companies and insurance agencies.
The seminar is part of an ongoing effort to increase awareness on car break ins, burglaries at businesses, and home invasions, education to increase security, and how to take action to reduce crime, Woloson said.
“I’m hearing about more and more of these cases,” he said. “I think an important part of the process is to get accustomed to reading the Public Safety page in the paper.”
Additional seminars are being planned for the public and for broadcast on local cable channels, he said.
