CROP Walk celebrates 30 years of giving

Lake Orion and Oxford residents are encouraged to join the hundreds already committed as they walk to make a difference in and out of our community with the 30 annual CROP walk on May 6.
Last year the event took place at’Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.? Eleven churches with 170 walkers raised an estimated $18,431.? They chose to walk either a 2 mile or a 10k (6.2 mile course).
This year they’re walking again and want to meet or surpass that total with hundreds of walkers from churches in the area. 2012’s walk is joined by one of the heads of this national event.?
The CROP Walk is put on by the Church World Services (CWS) – an interfaith organization.? 25 percent of the money goes to local agencies, 15 percent goes to FISH and this year Love in the Name of Christ receives 10 percent.?
The rest of the money goes to third world countries to improve farming practices, build wells and provide disaster relief both in the United States and globally.
