The sun was shining and the warm weather took over on Saturday – just in time for the annual Celebrate Oxford.
Oxford Downtown Development Authority estimated 5,000 people attended the event this year.
The popular spots were Taste of Oxford, Oxford Rotary Club Car Show and Kids Town.
‘We heard from many people this was the best Celebrate Oxford ever,? said Michael Johnson, Oxford DDA events coordinator.
‘It was great to see so many families visit downtown Oxford and experience our unique retail shops and dining destinations.?
The community also had a chance to listen to past performers from Oxford’s Concerts in the Park summer series. Families relaxed in Centennial Park to listen to the tunes of G-Daddy’s, Krist & Bizer, Inis-Ceol, The Randy Brock Group, Toppermost and One Love.
Over in Kids Town, audiences were treated to magic shows and the dancing and singing talent of Oxford’s youth and a Battle of the Bands competition.
‘We have a lot of talent in Oxford,? said Johnson. ‘This year’s winner, Tripwire, will perform at the last concert in the park on August 27.?
The Student Art Show had over 40 entries -first place, Taylor Dawn Barrett, second place, Michael Nelson, and third place, Madison Eschberger.
Oxford Rotary Club had 92 entries for their classic car show. Forty pre-registered, while some waited to see what the weather would be.
The winners for the car show were: Jerry Henry, Bob Giroux, Joe Pysick, Steve Walsh, Mark Autenrieth, James Voorheis, Bill Sauer, Robert Frank, Gary & Julie McGee, Earl Cazon, and Marvin Blachura.
