The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the theft of two vehicles apparently stolen from a local dealership’s body shop while a night custodial crew was on duty.
Deputies responded to Bowman Chevrolet on Feb. 10 after the body shop manager reported that a Ford Mustang convertible and a Chevrolet Impala were missing. Another dealership employee said he saw someone driving a Mustang with the top down north on M-15 as he was driving into work that morning.
Later, deputies interviewed members of the custodial crew, who said men they believed to be delivering parts unlocked an access gate and were seen inside the body shop.
One of the custodians later saw the cars leave the dealership, but apparently did not suspect anything suspicious.
After receiving the report, a deputy remembered seeing men fitting the description at the BP gasoline station at M-15 and Dixie Highway the previous evening.
Further investigation revealed that the service station has a video surveillance system. That video and the various witness statements were turned over to the county auto theft division.
