Doan, Ashford excel for BHS girls track

Brandon’s girls track team, competing in its first Flint Metro League meet of the year, showed it will be a factor in the league race.
The Blackhawks took first place in four of five field events and 11 events overall on their way to defeating visiting Oxford 83.5-52.5 in an April 28 contest.
Allie Sowa won the long jump for the Blackhawks (13?3-1/2?), while Sarah Bond won the discus (104?11?). Other field event winners for Brandon were Savannah Stedman in the high jump (4?10?) and Megan Ostrowski in the pole vault (6?6?).
Kayla Doan had another solid meet for the Blackhawks, winning two solo events, the 1600 meter run (6:09) and the 800 meter run (2:34.52), and anchoring the winning 1600 meter relay team with Mandy Noonan, Kelly Wilson, and Jamilia Richardson (4:32.9).
Danie Ashford also excelled for the Blackhawks, capturing two events, the high hurdles (18:53) and the 300 meter hurdles (52.99).
Other Brandon first-place finishers were Noonan in the 400 meter dash (1:05.55) and Kelly Craciun in the 3200 meter run (13:32).
