The Skarritt family never dreamed their three-year-old German Shepherd Zeus would one day be called a hero.
But that is what a fellow canine might consider him after he alerted his owner to a dog trapped in the neighbor’s pool on March 31.
Gary Skarritt said his son Ryan, 19, had just come home from college around 11 a.m. that day and let Zeus out into the backyard as he usually did.
‘Zeus ran to the back fence and he was sniffing at the fence and whining and barking,? Gary said. ‘Ryan called him to come in, but he wouldn’t come.?
‘It was kind of strange,? said Ryan, a 2003 graduate of Lake Orion High School, currently attending Northwestern Tech. ‘I went to see what he was doing , and I heard a whimpering noise.?
Ryan looked over the fence and saw what had Zeus so concerned. A black labrador was frantically trying to get of the neighbors? swimming pool.
‘I went next door to see if anyone was home, but no one was,? Ryan said. ‘I couldn’t pull the dog out myself, so I called the police and they contacted animal rescue.?
The dog was pulled out of the pool and had no injuries, although he was cold and shaking, Ryan said.
‘The dog had tags, he belongs to someone about three streets over,? Gary said.
‘We haven’t heard from the owners,? said Ryan.
