Local kids are poised to take over downtown Oxford on Tuesday, April 7.
Don’t worry, it’s not part of some pint-sized coup d’etat. It’s Kids Night Out and it will run from 6-8 p.m.
‘There’s lots of fun stuff in Oxford for grown-ups to go out and do, but kids never get to come out at night,? said organizer Susan Morey, owner of The Learners Place located at 5 N. Washington St.
During this free event, which is geared towards kids age 6-12, participating businesses will offer fun activities and special menu items for children.
The main part of the event will be a treasure hunt.
Each child will collect puzzle pieces from participating businesses. When assembled, these pieces will form a map revealing the location of a hidden treasure containing goodie bags for every young hunter.
Morey sees the event as a good opportunity for kids to ‘get out of the house? and ‘run around? after being cooped up all winter long.
‘I’d like it to become an annual event during spring break, but with a different twist each year,? she noted.
Morey is pleased with the positive response she’s received from her fellow downtown merchants and their willingness to participate. ‘I’m grateful to everybody who’s gotten involved,? she said.
