Dr. Wissman

All doctors need to have a medical degree. But a really good doctor has to have other assets to be a success.
Dr. Sheryl Wissman of the Glennan Medical Group is a wonderful example of a doctor who is skilled in medicine and cares about her patients? total health and peace of mind.
Dr. Wissman takes time to listen to her patients. ‘I consider myself a pro-patient advocate. I’ll always go to bat for them — find sources. If they have extra needs I’ll try to get it for them.?
She opened her office in Lake Orion full-time in November. The Rochester resident boards horses in the Metamora area and as she traveled back and forth she soon fell in love with the community.
Dr. Wissman thought Lake Orion would be a good place to open a private practice because it’s centrally located and has a variety of people living in the community.
A graduate of Wayne State Medical School, Dr. Wissman has been in practice for 12 years — private practice since 1998. Her degree is in internal medicine/pediatrics.
According to Dr. Wissman, she was in the first graduating class at WSU that awarded that degree. This degree allows her to treat babies, children, adults. Her oldest patient is 103.
‘I take care of all kind of medical problems,? Dr. Wissman says, ‘The only thing I don’t do is surgery and deliver babies.?
One of the main focuses at her office is prevention medicine. Dr. Wissman helps her patients obtain healthy lifestyles, learn stress management and is open to talking about natural alternatives.
She recommends her patients have a yearly physical and take normal tests. Treatments could be easier if you find a problem early,? Dr. Wissman adds.
Dr. Wissman is a conscientious and accommodating doctor. She tries not to overbook her appointments and will work people in if possible.
‘I have a great staff. They’re friendly, pleasant and discreet,? she adds.
Her services include blood testing and bone density testing.
Dr. Wissman has continued her association with WSU by becoming a volunteer faculty member. She is affiliated with Crittenton Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Harper Hospital.
Dr. Wissman says she plans on becoming active in the community. She’s interested in talking to sports teams about injury prevention, conducting community education programs and will work with Independence Village (senior housing in Oxford).
She is board certified, a member of the American Medical Association and affiliated with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians.
‘I’m very active,? Dr. Wissman says. ‘I attend a lot of conferences they put on and stay current on new techniques.?
