The Lake Orion boys and girls ski teams each opened their seasons by winning the Flushing Invitational on Jan. 7 at Mt. Holly.
The boys edged second place Waterford United by three points to claim their eighth straight Flushing title. Orion was led by Scott Arsen, who captured first place, followed by fellow juniors Marty Tarr (fourth) and Kevin Bowen (fifth).
Senior co-captain Rob Stakle rounded out the Dragons? scoring with a 12th place finish.
The girls placed five racers in the top 10 to hold off a strong Flushing squad for a nine-point margin of victory. The girls were led by co-captain Katelyn Rivers, who finished second overall.
Junior Kristen Fleming finished fourth, senior co-captain Jessica Hutchison was fifth, and senior Lacy Phillips was sixth.
Junior Camille Seybert captured eighth place.
Both teams open their Southeastern Michigan Ski League season on Jan. 12 in a showdown of what is expected to be four of southeastern Michigan’s top teams, when the Dragons compete in a four-way race with Bloomfield Lahser, Cranbrook and Notre Dame Prep at Pine Knob.
