Dragon wrestlers are league champs for first time in a decade

The Lake Orion varsity wrestling team celebrated their first OAA I championship title since 1990 on Feb. 11 at Lake Orion High School.
The Dragons finished with 169.5 points, which was enough to defeat Clarkston, as they took second with 160 points. Rochester rounded out the top three, with 143.
Lake Orion had several top finishers: Jake Varilek took the top spot in the 125-pound category, and Ian Rocheleau finished first at 140.
Gerry Webber was first for the Dragons at 152, and Shane Tobin won the 215-pound category.
AJ Pratt finished in fourth place at 119 for the team, and Allen Sigler was third at 160. Darren Peshl took fourth at 275 for the Dragons.
The varsity team currently has a 6-1 league record for dual meets in OAA I. They host the MHSAA Team Districts on Feb. 16, starting at 6 p.m.
Individual districts will be on Feb. 19 at Chippewa Valley. The Dragons will round out the month with MHSAA Team Regionals on Feb. 23 at Davison, and MHSAA Individual Regionals on Feb. 26 at Bay City Western.
