At last weekend’s Oakland Activities Association (OAA) swim meet, LOHS placed fourth out of 32 teams.
Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6, the boys? swim and dive team participated in the all-Oakland meet at Waterford Mott. Lake Orion placed behind Birmingham Groves, Seaholm and Brother Rice. Dragons sent 10 swimmers and four divers to the competition.
The dive competition took place Friday night, with two LO seniors hammering out some highly-scored dives. Chris Fraga took fifth, Justin Davis had seventh, Brad Horvath was 36th and Charlie Maurer took 39th. Their performances put Lake Orion in first place going into Saturday’s swim events.
A strong showing from the LOHS relay teams — third in the 200-free, seventh in the 400-free and ninth in the 200-medley — along with outstanding individual performances allowed the Dragons to capture the fourth overall spot behind Oakland County’s swimming powerhouses.
Results for the individual events were:
50-free (Petar Simic – fifth, Vetter – 28th, Kyle McDonald – 31th)
100-free (Jacob Lindquist – 15th, Marc Vetter – 30th)
200-free (Zach Diener – 9th, Drew Fritch – 25th)
500-free (Will Cavender – 18th, Diener – 19th)
200-IM (Cavender – 14th)
100-fly (Fritch – 20th, Petar Simic – 21th)
100-back (Zac Nowicki – 16th, Dan Petchenuk – 25th)
100-breast (Lindquist – 4th, Brad Matola – 28th)
Their performance at the OAA meet supports their season-long record of seven wins and two losses, and first place finishes at both the Saginaw Heritage and LO Dragon relay meets.
In addition to a strong season, Lindquist set a new LOHS varsity record, Jan. 21 against Groves High School, for the 100-breast with a time of 1:00.90, shattering the old record of 1:01.49 set back in 2006 by Garrett Ruhland.
With the bulk of the season behind them, the boys have both the OAA Red Division finals (Seaholm High School, Feb. 24 and 25) and the OAA Super Meet (Feb. 26 and 27 LOHS) in their sights.
