Family Holiday Fest kicks off Dec. 2

While some radio stations pump out Christmas music in early November, Clarkston residents realized long ago that the jolly season does not start until Independence Township Parks and Recreations Family Holiday Fest kicks off on Dec. 2.
The Family Holiday Fest runs the first two weekends of December at Bay Court Park at 6970 Andersonville Road. On both Dec. 2 and 9, the festivities run from 6-9 p.m. On Dec. 3 and 10 the enjoyment goes from 5-9 p.m.
This year, over 60,000 lights are featured across hundreds of displays as families are invited to ‘Walk to the North Pole.?
Attendees should keep warm on the horse drawn wagon ride, by stocking up on hot cocoa, holiday cookies and roasted marshmallows. Hot dogs are available for an additional cost. Last year, ITP&R supervisor Mike Turk personally oversaw all grilling of hot dogs and roasting of marshmallows.
For those who simply must get out of the cold, Santa and Mrs. Claus await, ready to pose for pictures with the little ones. For an additional cost of $2, a keepsake key chain or magnet picture holder is available.
Tickets are available now at the ITP&R offices on Main Street. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. A family rate of $25 for residents and $35 for non-residents is available; limit five per family.
Registration forms can also be printed online at www.twp.independence.mi.us and checks can be mailed and made out to Independence Township Parks and Recreation, 90 North Main Street or P.O. Box 69 Clarkston, MI 48347.
Depending on availability, tickets will be available for $8 per person at the door.
