Famous Italian subs satisfy Lake Orion’s appetite

You don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant with violins playing in the background to enjoy an Italian meal.
Now, all you have to do is go to your local Valero’s gas station.
The convenience store at Valero’s gas station no longer sells only gas, potato chips, beef jerky, beer and pop.
The store, located next to McDonald’s and across the street from Diamond Dave’s in Lake Orion, has upgraded to selling customers a hearty dinner in addition to the snack foods most convenience stores are known for.
The gas station is owned by the partnership of Norman Yaldoo and Sam Jajou. In June, they opened a Buscemi’s inside the store, which is known for their Italian submarines and pizza.
Dani Jajou, who is part of the family-owned business, said they chose Lake Orion to open the store because ‘they thought [Lake Orion] was a nice, friendly area. It’s a good area around here, good people.?
Jajou said people should pick Buscemi’s over more commercialized pizza joints because ‘we have good customer service. Our customers and clients are the most important thing over here.? He said their company stays true to their motto: ‘fast and friendly service.?
Jajou added that their location has the cheapest prices in town. A 24-piece deep dish pizza is only $19.25. Most commercialized pizza places charge about $28 for only 16 slices (two large pizzas).
Customers can order a small (8-piece), medium (12-piece) or large (24-piece) pizza. Customers can create their own personal pizza, ordering whichever toppings they wish. Jajou said his favorite pizza is the meat lover’s pizza, which includes pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham and beef.
Pizzas are ready in about 15 to 20 minutes after they are ordered. If you’re in the mood for pizza, you can order by calling 248-693-4565.
But, despite the variety of deep dish pizzas, Italian subs are Buscemi’s specialty. The sign on Valero’s door attests to this, advertising the ‘famous torpedo submarine? served at Buscemi’s.
Submarines are made on a bun or pita bread and include ham with Swiss cheese, turkey, veggies, roast beef and corn beef.
Some of the subs are pre-made, but people can also customize their subs by ordering whatever toppings they crave.
So, when ‘the moon hits your eyes like a big pizza pie,? it’s not amor?. It’s your appetite.
And now, this Italian franchise, which was awarded as Michigan’s Best in 2006 by the Detroit Free Press, is conveniently located in Lake Orion on 415 South Broadway Street.
