A group of agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided an Oxford Village home Thursday morning.
According to Special Agent Sandra Berchtold, media coordinator for the FBI Detroit Field Office, the agents executed search and arrest warrants at 61 East St. (corner of East and Louck streets).
Details regarding exactly what the agents were looking for, who was arrested and what type of federal charges are involved could not be released, according to Berchtold.
“Because everything is sealed (under the U.S. Courts), I can’t tell you why we were there or anything like that,” she said. “All I can tell you is that we were out there on official business.”
A local source indicated the case is related to Internet crime.
Outside the tiny gray house, this reporter observed what appeared to be FBI agents taking two individuals into custody.
One young man was placed in an Oxford Village Police patrol car and driven away. The other individual was placed inside one of the numerous FBI vehicles surrounding the house.
Police Chief Mike Neymanowski said the FBI raid was part of an “ongoing investigation” and his department assisted the agents.
When asked if there’s been any history of problems at 61 East St., Neymanowski replied, “Probably some disorderly issues — that’s about it.”
