Fenton dashes Brandon cagers? hopes in final seconds

Brandon’s varsity girls basketball team suffered a setback in the Flint Metro League race.
Against host Fenton Oct. 25, the Tigers? Christina Rivette hit a shot with 6.2 seconds left to give Fenton a 30-28 win against the Blackhawks.
With the win, Fenton improved to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in Flint Metro action, while Brandon fell to 10-5 and 6-4. The Tigers are in sole possession of first place in the leauge after Linden’s upset of Lapeer West dropped the Panthers to 6-3 in the league.
The Blackhawks seemingly had things going their way in the first half, jumping out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter. Brandon held the Tigers to two points in the second quarter.
However, the Tigers began applying the pressure in the second half, holding the Blackhawks to three points in the third quarter to trim the Brandon lead to 22-18, setting up the fourth quarter finish.
Savannah Stedman led the Blackhawks with eight points, while Chelsea Wengren added six.
After a tightly contested first half, the Blackhawks put away visiting Holly for a 43-34 win Thursday, Oct. 20 in a Flint Metro League contest.
The Bronchos held a 20-19 halftime lead before the Blackhawks asserted themselves in the second half.
The Blackhawks proved to be the more aggressive team in getting to the free throw line, shooting 23 times from the charity stripe to five for Holly.
Stedman led the Blackhawks with 11 points, while Jessica Liebner and Brooke Schaefer added seven points each.
