Firefighters serve 2,042 sundaes at Leonard festival

Think you’ve got a sweet tooth?
Take heart because you’re obviously not alone.
A total of 2,042 ice cream sundaes were dished out by members of the Addison Township Firefighters Association during the 54th Annual Strawberry Festival in downtown Leonard Saturday.
Festival-goers gobbled up 150 gallons of vanilla ice cream smothered in 780 pounds of sliced strawberries in sauce.
Sundae sales totalled a whopping $4,776.
All of the money will be used by the Firefighters Association to aid families who get burned out of their homes, help folks in need pay heating bills during the winter and donate to various charitable causes.
This year’s sundae-making operation ran like a well-oiled machine thanks to a paid-on-call firefighter named Rudy Nyitray, according to Chief George Spencer.
Nyitray works in management at General Motors. His specialty used to be production management.
‘He helped us really organize and plan the whole process behind producing the strawberry sundaes,? Spencer said. ‘He streamlined the production process and managed it for us.?
‘I think we served more sundaes with less people than we ever have before.?
