The calendar says it’s spring, but you’d never know it looking outside as Old Man Winter kept his icy grip on Michigan.
As of 9:16 a.m. Monday, a total of 6? inches of wet, heavy snow had fallen on the Oxford area, according to the National Weather Service’s Detroit/Pontiac Office in White Lake.
Instead of gently waking to chirping birds and rays of warm sunlight, Oxford area residents were ripped from their slumber by the sounds of scraping snow shovels and roaring plow trucks.
Unfortunately, the heavy snow and winds caused many downed tree limbs, which in turn led to fallen power lines. Approximately 2,000 customers lost power in Oxford and Addison, according to DTE Energy Spokesman Len Singer.
‘To give you some perspective, we have about 40,000 customers out across all of southeast Michigan,? said Singer on Monday. ‘In Oakland County, it was about 15,000 total.?
‘We do have all of our available crews out there working,? he noted.
By Tuesday afternoon, Singer reported power had been restored to all but about 40 Addison customers and 25 Oxford customers.
‘We expect to have them back today,? he said. ‘At this point in the process, we have a lot of outages that are affecting individual customers.?
With the Easter holiday a few days away, one has to wonder if those annual egg hunts are going to require boots, mittens and shovels this year.
Stay tuned. ? CJC
